Q. What exactly does the term “repatriation” mean?
A. The term “repatriation” means the return of any person to his or her country of origin or home of record.
Q. Is The Humane Repatriation Center recognized by the IRS as a non-profit charitable 501(c)(3) organization?
A. Yes. The Humane Repatriation is recognized by The United States Internal Revenue Service, The California State Tax Franchise Board, The United States Attorney Generals’ Office, and the California State Attorney Generals’ Office as a Charitable Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization, and as such, all donations to our organization are completely tax exempt.
Q. Isn’t there already some kind of organization or government agency responsible for assisting in the identification and/or repatriation of foreign nationals who die in our country?
A. No. At the present, there is no such organization or agency responsible for the identification and/or repatriation of undocumented foreign nationals who perish on our soil.
Q. Where are the majority of the victims from?
A. Approximately 70% of the deceased victims found each year are from Mexico. The other 30% are primarily from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua. However, it is the policy of The Humane Repatriation Center to provide assistance to ANY person from ANY country in the location, identification, and return of their loved ones who may have perished on U.S. soil and remain missing. Each year victims are discovered along the border corridor who are from each and every country of Central and South America, and even as far away as Asia and Europe.
Q. How much does it cost to locate, identify, and return a victim home for proper burial?
A. Depending upon the difficulty of establishing positive identification of the victim, notification of next of kin, country of origin, and logistical requirements for transportation, each repatriation mission costs between $4,200.00 to $6,500.00. Obviously, far outside the economic resources of those whom we are dedicated to serve.
Q. How much does The Humane Repatriation Center charge the family members of deceased victims for their assistance in the location, identification, and return of their loved ones?
A. There is never any charge to the victims or family members served by The Humane Repatriation Center. Ours is a completely charitable and humanitarian mission, funded entirely through the faith, compassion, and financial support of our members and friends.
Q. Does The Humane Repatriation Center have any affiliation with any religious or political organizations?
A. No. The Humane Repatriation Center does not involve itself in politics or the endorsement of any particular political candidate, party or religious group or denomination. We do of course support any and all legislation which would make our borders more humane, and which would offer more assistance to those who fall victim to our broken immigration policy. We also actively seek to partner with any and all individuals, corporations, faith based groups or civic organizations who would be interested in helping us further our mission.
Q. How is the mission of The Humane Repatriation Center supported?
A. The work of The Humane Repatriation Center is funded entirely through the compassion and financial support of our friends and members.
Q. How can I get involved in supporting the cause of The Humane Repatriation Center?
A. As a grass roots organization without funding from government sources or private foundations, we obviously are in dire need of financial support, however, there are also many opportunities to volunteer your time and skills to assist us in our mission.
